Salina Christmas

The regiment was established in April 1964 during the Malaysia-Indonesia confrontation. Its establishment followed the end of the Kiwi mission at the Malaysian-Thai border in November 1963. The 1^st Battalion of the regiment, 1 RNZIR, was instrumental in helping the Malaysians restore order during the confrontation period, operating under the 4^th Malaysian Infantry Brigade.
