A 19th Century kingdom in Southern Thailand that stretched from Pattani to Lenggong in modern-day Perak. Until the Anglo-Siamese Treaty in 1909, this kingdom was under the rule of the King of Siam. The British needed Reman for its tin deposits, crucial for the Industrial Revolution. The last King of Reman and his son, the crown prince, rebelled against the King of Siam to protest against the handover to the British. The crown prince was captured, and sadly – and rather conveniently – died when his vessel sank in the river en route to Bangkok. The King of Reman died shortly after without an heir. The Queen died in 1915. The area once known as Reman is now the northern part of Perak which borders Thailand.
