The Raden family

The Constant Companion Tales are told from the point of view of Sarah, the second eldest of four children. She is the daughter of an army captain. The tale begins when Sarah is nine years’ old. Her father is in charge of exhuming the remains of fallen Gurkha soldiers of World War 2. Supernatural events occur as the exhumation takes place. Soldiers at the camp they’re staying claim to be haunted by a ghost. The Constant Companion appears out of blue, terrorising the children, and their grandfather has no choice but to intervention. It’s around this time that Sarah begins to notice something peculiar about her family, in particular her beloved grandfather. The Constant Companion appears regularly to her in her dreams, though he manifests directly before her brother, the oldest of the siblings, much to the boy’s dismay.
